Students Celebrate Christmas in February

On February 27, 2015, at Intermediate Unit 1, about 60 special needs students ate pizza against a background of Christmas carols, pine trees with red lights, and reindeer pictures. It was the Intermediate Unit 1’s annual holiday card contest pizza party.

Every year, more than 2,000 preschool through secondary school students attending IU1 programs enter the Annual Christmas Card Competition. Students design their own Christmas cards, which are displayed at IU1 throughout the month of December. IU1 employees and any interested district person vote for the card they like the best. Five winners are selected, and then one of the five winning cards becomes the IU1 Christmas card for the following year. In February, these five winning students bring their entire class to the IU for a “Christmas in February” pizza party and awards ceremony.
