Science, technology, engineering, art, and math subjects—or STEAM—is a movement to transform education and students learning in the twenty-first century. What once started as STEM has evolved into STEAM, integrating art and design into education to encourage innovation. Chevron is dedicated to ensuring students in southwestern Pennsylvania have the STEAM skills necessary to navigate our increasingly innovation-reliant world. Because of Chevron’s dedication to STEAM education, three schools in the Intermediate Unit 1 service region received funding to pursue STEAM initiatives within their school districts.
Chevron provided $50,000 in funding for the three schools to pursue STEAM initiatives within their districts. The three schools that received Chevron STEAM education funding include:
- Carmichaels Area School District, Greene County: $15,000
- Laurel Highlands School District, Fayette County: $16,000
- Trinity Area School District, Washington County: $19,000
Schools will be implementing their projects during the – school year.
“Intermediate Unit 1 is proud to have our schools recognize the importance of STEAM education, which will transform education and learning for students and educators. We are extremely grateful for the support Chevron has shown our districts in all educational endeavors,” said Charles F. Mahoney, Intermediate Unit 1 Executive Director.
Chevron’s passion and support for STEAM education in our area will allow students and schools the opportunity to become the innovators of the future. IU1 is dedicated to providing quality leadership and services to our schools and communities and continues to champion STEAM education and innovation to prepare all learners. As the STEAM movement only grows, the schools, educators, and students within the IU1 region have a jump start on STEAM education and innovation, and are on the way to becoming leaders in our region for this most worthwhile initiative.
