Intermediate Unit 1, Laurel Highlands School District, Uniontown Library, ABC Schoolhouse, Duck Hollow Learning Center, Imagine Academy and Rainbow Dreams held a Community Innovation Zone (CIZ) event entitled Literacy-A Living Treasure! on at the Laurel Highlands High School.
Preschool students and their high school mentors enjoyed a fun and informative presentation from nature photographer Danial Caron and a variety of activities at the event. The focus of Literacy-A Living Treasure! was on living and nonliving things, as illustrated by creating a “pet rock” and identifying the differences between a gummy worm and a living worm.
All preschool children received a number of books, a fruit and veggie basket, and one lucky winner went home with a Kindle as a door prize! Intermediate Unit 1 looks forward to continuing the CIZ Initiative with our partners in the 2016-2017 school year!
