The BrainSTEPS Brain Injury School Consulting Program is celebrating its 10th Anniversary providing education and training to schools in Pennsylvania!

BrainSTEPS was created in 2007 by the PA Department of Health and is jointly funded by the PA Department of Health and PA Department of Education. BrainSTEPS is implemented through the Brain Injury Association of PA. There are BrainSTEPS teams in each of the PA Intermediate Units covering all schools in the Commonwealth. Intermediate Unit 1 has had an official BrainSTEPS team for eight years.

This past Fall, the BrainSTEPS Program was adopted by the Colorado Department of Education for statewide implementation.  As part of that process, several Pennsylvania BrainSTEPS Team Leaders were chosen to serve as mentors for new Colorado teams.  Melissa Hunter (pictured below) from Intermediate Unit 1 is mentoring BrainSTEPS teams in both Aurora Public School District and Englewood School District in Colorado. Her role will entail helping to assist in the ongoing development of the Colorado BrainSTEPS teams, following guidance from the BrainSTEPS Best Practices created by the PDE and BIAPA.
