The Pittsburgh Steelers, Chevron, Remake Learning, the Grable Foundation, Intermediate Unit 1, and Allegheny Intermediate Unit 3 teamed up for the 2017 Leaders in the Classroom program to recognize southwestern PA and northern West Virginia teachers, whose engaging instruction and curriculum significantly impacts the region's pre-K to 12th-grade students.

The Leaders in the Classroom Award is dedicated to honoring teachers who are making a significant difference in the lives of students across the region by providing engaging instruction and curriculum, encouraging lifelong learning and inspiring a passion for education beyond the classroom and into the future. IU1 would like to congratulate the following local IU1 Leaders in the Classroom:

  • Tracey Ross from IU1 Waynesburg Campus
  • Tiffany Hart from West Greene Elementary School
  • Dr. Sandy Cavanaugh from Canon-McMillan High School
  • Brandon Botzer from Trinity Area High School
  • Erika Minch from Avella Elementary School

Congratulations to all teachers who received the Leader in the Classroom award for their dedication to their students and exceptional effort in the classroom. IU1 wishes them all the best in the remainder of the school year and all future endeavors!
