Decorated slippers hung in the hallway of IU1’s Central Office. The slippers were a part of a series of pieces created by students from Brownsville Area School District.

Children feel a sense of emotional satisfaction when they are making art, whether it is modeling clay, drawing with crayons, or making a collage from recycled scraps. Deciding what they will make and what materials to use presents an important opportunity for children to learn to make independent choices and decisions for themselves.

For the past eight years, Intermediate Unit 1 has been giving district students the opportunity to have their choices and decisions heard. Since , Intermediate Unit 1 has decorated its Central Office with K–12 student artwork from districts in Fayette, Greene, and Washington Counties.

Each year IU1 displays artwork from at least six districts beginning in October and ending in May. Each district collection remains posted for a month.

All districts are welcome to share their students’ talents with IU1. Should your district be interested in doing a display for the 2015–2016 school year, you may contact Patricia Hazen at , or Toni Darby at .
